Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about holiday status, date ranges, updates, and subscriptions.
Is every listed festival a public holiday?
No. A festival is labelled as a public holiday only where an official authority grants that status for the selected jurisdiction. Otherwise it remains a festival or observance.
Why does a holiday apply only to certain states?
Malaysia has federal, state, and territory-specific holidays. Each event lists the jurisdictions to which its official status applies.
How are multi-day school holidays shown?
The website displays both the inclusive start and end dates. Subscribed feeds encode the following day as the exclusive end date so calendar applications display the full period correctly.
How often is the data updated?
Official sources are checked every six hours. A new dataset is published only when changed source material passes validation.
What happens when an official source is unavailable?
The current validated dataset remains active. Repeated source failures trigger an operational alert and cannot replace valid production data.
How do I subscribe on an Apple device?
Build a feed, copy its HTTPS address, then add it in Calendar under Add Calendar and Add Subscription Calendar. Subscribing keeps future updates connected; importing a file does not.
Apple Calendar assigns colour per subscribed calendar, not per event label. To use different colours, subscribe to public and state holidays together, school holidays separately, and festivals separately, then choose a colour for each calendar.
